Backups

Protect your server data with comprehensive backup strategies.

Overview

Our backup system ensures your server data is safe and easily recoverable. Create manual backups or schedule automatic ones.

For more information about how our backups system works and where your data is stored, please refer to our Backups page.

Our backup system will automatically exclude the following files and directories, in addition to any file in size over 500MB, from backups to prevent backups from becoming too large and taking too long to be saved/restored from. If you have a specific exclusion you need, please reach out to our support team and we can make sure that your file(s) will not be excluded from your backups.

**/backups/** # Exclude backups created by mods such as FTBBackups, FTBUtilities, Aroma Backup, Server Utilities, etc. **/dynmap/** # Exclude dynmap data, since it can contain massive amounts of individual png tiles, which can rapidly increase the size of a backup.

Creating a Backup Manually

  1. Go to Backups tab
  2. Click Create Backup
  3. Enter a list of files to be excluded from the backup (you can use wildcards to exclude entire directories or directories within subdirectories, for more information on the syntax, see the Git guide to .gitignores , as our system uses the same syntax.)
  4. Click Create Backup
  5. Wait for backup to complete

Creating a Schedule for Backups

  1. Navigate to Schedules tab
  2. Click Create Schedule
  3. Enter an interval for the schedule. For more information on this, see our Schedules page.
  4. Add a task to the schedule. In this case, we want to use the Create backup action.
  5. Add files for the backups to ignore to the text box.
  6. Create the task
  7. Make sure the schedule is enabled, and you’re good to go!

Downloading a Backup

  1. Navigate to Backups tab
  2. Click on the ellipses (…) next to the backup you want to download
  3. Click Download
  4. Wait for download to complete

Restoring a Backup

  1. Navigate to Backups tab
  2. Click on the ellipses (…) next to the backup you want to restore
  3. Click Restore
  4. You can check the box to delete all files before restoring the backup, or you can choose to keep existing files. This is useful in the event that you want to keep files that are excluded from the backup, but we do recommend that you delete all files that would be contained in the backup that you are restoring from to prevent any conflicts.
  5. Wait for restore to complete

Locking a Backup

This allows you to prevent a backup from being deleted or overwritten, including when automated backups are created. This is useful if you want to keep a backup for a specific reason, such as a special event, or you want to keep a backup for a specific version of your server.

Locked backups can be unlocked by clicking the ellipses (…) next to the backup and clicking Unlock.

  1. Navigate to Backups tab
  2. Click on the ellipses (…) next to the backup you want to lock
  3. Click Lock
  4. Wait for lock to complete

Deleting a Backup

  1. Navigate to Backups tab
  2. Click on the ellipses (…) next to the backup you want to delete
  3. Click Delete
  4. Wait for delete to complete
